Rhodam volunteered to serve in the Revolutionary War from Faairfax County, under Captain Dennis Ramsey, he marched to Alexandria, where he was transferred to the regiment of Colonel William Romney (Ronney or Renley). He marfched to White Plains, New York, then to Germantown, where he served three or four months, ans was discharged by Brigadier General Charles Scott.
In August 1780, Rhodam again volunteered to serve in the Revolutionary War under Captain William Mason, Lieutenant James Nesbitt, and under Colonel Comney Lucas.
He marched to Fredericksburg, Richmond, Petersburg, Cheraw Hills, and to the Pittsylvania Courthouse where he was discharged. Wile he was wounded in the face by a bayonet which broke his jawbone, and he was also wounded in the hand. The British party of thirty or forth was captured during the skirmish.
Land on the western frontier was made available by the government to those that served in the Revolutionary War. Rhodam and his older brother Edward went over to together to Western Virginia in 1778 and squated on ground near Clarksburg, Virginia. The area later became known as Lumberport. Rhodam received grants of the land on Jones Run and Robinson Run in Eagle District. Edward had a large farm on the West Fork River, where the town of Hawwood is now situated.
Rhodam Rogers wass a cabinet maker by trade. He built tdhe first frame house in the area of Jones Run by whipsawing the lumber by hand.
